This non-toxic shower spray and all-purpose bathroom cleaner will prevent soap scum, grime, and mineral build-up. The simple DIY formula makes it easy to spray after a hot shower or quickly clean the whole bathroom. It is made from natural ingredients that are easy to find and cheap to acquire.
Most cleaners you pick up at the store have water in them but I can guarantee it’s not enough to count as a natural product. This non-toxic cleaner is made of fifty-percent water! The other fifty-percent is made with toxin-free ingredients and essential oils if desired.
Let’s be honest, it takes most of us a great deal of determination to spend our day cleaning bathrooms. Wouldn’t it be nice if the showers and tubs would clean themselves? This non-toxic shower spray is the closest thing available to self-cleaning shower walls!
I find that deep cleaning bathrooms one day a week works best in my home. However, I do need something to maintain general cleanliness throughout the rest of the days especially when my husband comes home covered in oil and grime.
Spraying the shower walls and bathroom counters daily gives me the satisfaction of a clean bathroom without much scrubbing required. On deep cleaning day, it is much easier to clean and requires less elbow-grease than letting gunk build-up all week. Simply spray and walk away after a hot shower or wipe down all bathroom surfaces on the way out!
Though essential oils are optional to this recipe, a refreshing eucalyptus scent with every shower has become a highlight of my day.
Another reason to use this DIY daily shower spray is to prevent mineral build-up from hard water. A quick Google search will allow you to find out if your area has hard water.
Ditch the Chemical Burn!
When cleaning bathrooms, I always spray cleaner on the surfaces and let it sit before scrubbing. I noticed that fumes from toxic chemicals become overwhelmingly strong in showers with glass doors versus ones with shower curtains. It barely took enough product to cover all sides of the shower before I was using clothing to cover my nose and wipe tears away!
I said no more and threw them out the door!
I tend to spray a good bit when using the glass spray bottles of DIY cleaner as shown. In a typical week, I will use 3/4 to a full bottle for two bathrooms. It is super easy and cheap to make so I do not mind spraying excess. It also does not burn when sprayed even with a scent as strong as eucalyptus essential oil.
Simple Ingredients for Shower Spray
Tossing the toxins became important to me as I began a deep dive into finding ways to help Joseph’s asthma. I researched air purifiers, vacuum cleaners, allergen prevention, and cleaners. The best I could find for products and cleaners was to make my own so that I could be secure in knowing exactly what I was spraying all over our living space.
A lot of homemade cleaning products use the same ingredients. The best ingredients for cleaning are white vinegar, hydrogen peroxide, rubbing alcohol, baking soda, castile soap, and water!
To make this shower spray and bathroom cleaner, you will need water, vinegar, castile soap, and an essential oil (optional). While these ingredients are harmless, do not use this spray on stone! Acid wears the surface of natural stone. Therefore, do not use this shower spray on stone flooring or tiles because it contains vinegar, an acidic enemy.
Ingredients:
1 teaspoon castile soap (or any liquid dish soap)
4 ounces water
4 ounces white vinegar
10 drops essential oil of choice
I recommend eucalyptus for bathrooms and lemon for kitchens but the essential oil scent is totally up to what you prefer!
Instructions:
- Add the ingredients to a glass spray bottle.
- Secure lid and shake bottle to mix ingredients.
- Spray on shower walls after a hot shower or use to quickly wipe down bathroom surfaces.
Will this daily shower cleaner work?
This shower spray formula is meant to keep up with daily bathroom maintenance without any scrubbing. No matter your preferred cleaning schedule, this water based cleaner will do to get by in the meantime!
It can be used as a deep cleaner but I recommend letting it sit for a minute before scrubbing or working into the surface and rinsing clean. I also have another recipe that uses water, baking soda, hydrogen peroxide, and castile soap that I use for deep cleans. It has more ability to foam than the shower spray but easy cleaning throughout the week is definitely perfect for the job of the shower spray.
Is this shower spray and bathroom cleaner versatile?
Yes! This spray is primarily what I use for bathrooms but can also be used on kitchen surfaces! As mentioned, I simply change the scent with lemon essential oil for a clean, fresh scented kitchen.
But wait, there’s more…
This formula also works on glass surfaces such as shower doors, windows, coffee tables, and mirrors. Spray as usual and wipe with a microfiber towel or cloth to prevent streaks.
